Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent post on the World Environment Day 2025 this Thursday has taken over the internet. PM Modi posted pictures of himself planting a ‘Sindoor’ sapling in his residence at the 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. This sapling was gifted to the PM by a group of women in his last visit to Kutch in Gujarat.

PM Modi stated that the sapling of sindoor was given to him by the group of women who showed unwavering courage in the 1971 war. This plant will stand as a symbol of valor and inspiration of the power of women in our country.

The Prime Minister posted these photos on his official X handle and his caption read, “The brave mothers and sisters of Kutch, who set an amazing example of courage and valor in the 1971 war, recently presented me with a Sindoor plant during my visit to Gujarat. Today, on World Environment Day, I have had the privilege of planting that plant in the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi. This plant will remain a strong symbol of the valor and inspiration of the women power of our country.”

Sindoor i.e., vermilion, is traditionally applied by a married Hindu woman. It signifies the religious and cultural bond attached to marital life in the hindu tradition. In hindu tradition, while they marry each other, the groom applies ‘sindoor’ to his bride signifying their bond.

The choice of sapling is also very significant when we see the current day scenario. The Operation Sindoor of the Indian military in which the Indian Air Forces did air strikes on 9 base camps of terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). The strikes were done in retaliation to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir where 26 innocent lives were taken away most of whom were tourists.
