Parag Agrawal has been out of the limelight, literally after his ouster from Twitter, now known as X, by Elon Musk in a dramatic turn of events. According to latest reports, he has come up with a new venture, an AI startup, which will reportedly compete with the popular AI tools like ChatGPT and Bard. He secured an impressive $30 million in initial funding. Agrawal’s new endeavor aims to pioneer software tailored for LLM (Large Language Model) developers.

Born in Ajmer, Parag Agrawal was part of a well-educated family. His father was a senior official in the Indian Department of Atomic Energy and his mother is a retired Economics professor. Agrawal completed his graduation from IIT Bombay in 2005 after securing 77 all-India rank (AIR). Later he went to the United States to pursue a PhD in computer science at Stanford University.

Agrawal joined Twitter 10 years ago. He joined as Distinguished Software Engineer and he rose to become the Chief Technology Officer at Twitter.  He finally took over as the CEO. He was also responsible for running Twitter’s Bluesky project which was aimed at creating an open and decentralized standard for a social network protocol that led to some far-reaching changes being proposed.

The financing for this initiative was reportedly spearheaded by Khosla Ventures, with substantial contributions from renowned venture capital entities Index Ventures and First Round Capital,

Agrawal’s departure from Twitter was intertwined with Elon Musk’s rapid takeover and subsequent rebranding of the platform to ‘X’.
