The US embassy in India tweeted, “Hearty congratulations to Embassy New Delhi’s very own Neeraj & Vijay who completed the @bostonmarathon! From getting up at 4 am to practice, both of them have become elite runners in their 40s. This is their 1st time at Boston Marathon. An inspiring story for all of us!”

Neeraj and Vijay come from humble backgrounds and now in their 40s. They started realizing their running potential in the past 5 years when they both joined a local running group,  Lutyens Road Runners in 2018. Neeraj works as a chauffeur, and Vijay as a security guard.

They quickly honed their raw talent. Vijay comes from a village in Himachal Pradesh where his family lives. He wakes up every day at 4 am to run before working a daily twelve-hour shift. Neeraj started working full-time at age 12, selling newspapers to support his family, and running to feel better. They both honed their raw talent.

Now proud participants at Boston Marathon, which is the world’s oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world’s best-known road racing events. It is one of six World Marathon Majors.

The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) has organized this event annually since 1897,including a “virtual alternative” after the 2020 road race was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic
