India has reiterated its longstanding support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and reaffirmed that a negotiated two-state solution remains the only viable path to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated the country’s position during the recent meeting of the International Donor Group for Palestine, underscoring India’s continued commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Addressing the meeting, India called for the early admission of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations, stating that such recognition would strengthen international efforts towards a just, comprehensive and durable peace. New Delhi also stressed the importance of direct dialogue between Israel and Palestine, leading to the establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable Palestinian state living side by side with Israel within secure and mutually recognised borders.
The MEA highlighted that India’s position on the issue has remained consistent over the decades, balancing its strategic ties with Israel while extending steadfast political and developmental support to Palestine. India has historically backed the Palestinian cause in multilateral forums and has advocated a peaceful resolution through diplomacy and dialogue.
During the donor group discussions, India also reiterated its support for humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts in Palestinian territories, particularly amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The government called on the international community to intensify efforts aimed at reducing civilian suffering and creating conditions conducive to renewed peace negotiations.
By reaffirming its backing for Palestine’s UN membership and a two-state framework, New Delhi signalled continuity in its foreign policy while emphasising that sustainable peace can only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy and respect for international law.
