Virat Kohli has made his position clear on playing the 2027 ODI World Cup. The India batter said he wants to continue, but only if he is still adding value to the team and not having to prove himself in a “complicated” environment.
Speaking on an RCB podcast, the 37-year-old said he has been asked many times whether he wants to play in the 2027 World Cup. He replied that he knows the answer and wants to keep going, but made it clear that cricket must remain simple and honest for him.
Kohli said he would not stay in a setting where his worth is constantly questioned. He said if he ever has to prove his value again and again, then that place is “not for me,” adding that his perspective is very clear.
The former India captain also said playing a World Cup for India is a special feeling. At the same time, he stressed that his place in the side should be based on contribution, not pressure or repeated doubt.
His comments come amid growing talk over his ODI future and India’s plans for the next World Cup. Kohli’s latest remarks have now made his intent obvious: he wants to stay in the race for 2027, but only on terms where he feels useful to the team.
Kohli’s message was simple. He wants to play, he wants to help India, and he wants his role to be judged by value on the field, not by noise outside it.
