Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described preventing examination paper leaks as a “national responsibility” and called for the strictest punishment for those involved in the alleged NEET paper leak. Addressing the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that the Centre and state governments, along with all stakeholders, must work together to ensure a transparent and foolproof examination system.
According to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who briefed the media after the meeting, Modi said the government acted swiftly once reports of the leak emerged. He noted that 13 people had been arrested and jailed in connection with the case and assured that no one responsible for jeopardising students’ futures would be spared. The Prime Minister also urged Members of Parliament to rise above partisan politics and collectively safeguard the interests of the nation’s youth.
The remarks come amid nationwide concern over the integrity of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), one of India’s largest competitive examinations for medical admissions. The controversy has sparked protests and demands for greater accountability in the conduct of public examinations.
Modi emphasised that preserving the credibility of examinations is essential for protecting the aspirations of millions of students. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening examination mechanisms, enhancing transparency, and preventing future irregularities through coordinated efforts between the Centre and states.
The Prime Minister’s statement is expected to shape discussions during the ongoing parliamentary session, where the opposition has continued to raise concerns over the NEET controversy and examination reforms. The government has maintained that it is committed to restoring public confidence by ensuring accountability and implementing stronger safeguards against paper leaks in the future.
