The United States is preparing for a possible visit by President Donald Trump to India early next year, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The proposed visit reflects growing momentum in India-US relations as both countries work to strengthen cooperation across trade, security, and strategic affairs.
Speaking in an interview at the White House, Rubio said preparations are underway for the President’s trip and expressed hope that he would personally travel to India later this year to help finalize the arrangements. While no official dates have been announced, the remarks indicate that both governments are actively planning for a high-level diplomatic engagement.
Rubio described the relationship between Washington and New Delhi as strong, highlighting the recent meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 Summit. He noted that discussions between the two leaders reinforced their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and maintaining close diplomatic ties.
Trade negotiations also remain a key priority for both nations. Rubio said officials are making significant progress towards completing a bilateral trade agreement, adding that negotiations have reached an advanced stage. A successful deal is expected to boost economic cooperation and strengthen commercial ties between the world’s two largest democracies.
The US Secretary of State also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration through the Quad, the strategic partnership involving India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. He expressed optimism about another meeting of Quad leaders in the near future to discuss regional security and Indo-Pacific cooperation.
President Trump last visited India in February 2020, when he attended the “Namaste Trump” event in Ahmedabad and held bilateral talks in New Delhi. If the proposed visit takes place, it would mark another significant step in reinforcing the strategic partnership between India and the United States amid evolving global geopolitical and economic challenges.
