Apple has sharply increased prices of several MacBook and iPad models in India, with some devices becoming costlier by up to ₹70,000, as rising memory and storage costs linked to the global artificial intelligence (AI) boom push hardware prices higher. The latest revision marks one of the company’s biggest price increases in the Indian market, affecting premium laptops, tablets and other products.
The price hike, effective from June 25, has increased the cost of popular Apple devices, including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air and iPad Pro models. High-end configurations have seen the steepest increases, with some MacBook variants witnessing major jumps compared with their earlier prices.
Apple’s decision comes amid a worldwide shortage and rising prices of key components such as DRAM memory and storage chips. The surge has been driven largely by increased demand from AI companies building large-scale data centres that require huge amounts of computing power and memory capacity.
Industry experts said the increase could signal wider pressure on the personal computer market, as manufacturers face higher production costs. The AI race has created strong demand for advanced chips and memory components, forcing technology companies to adjust product pricing to protect margins.
In India, consumers looking to buy Apple devices will now have to pay significantly more for premium models. The increase comes at a time when the company’s products already occupy the higher end of the electronics market, making affordability a concern for students, professionals and small businesses that rely on Macs and iPads.
Apple has so far kept iPhone prices unchanged in the current round of revisions, although analysts have suggested that broader component cost pressures could influence future pricing decisions.
The latest move highlights how the rapid expansion of AI is reshaping the technology supply chain, affecting not only AI-focused hardware but also everyday consumer devices. As demand for advanced computing infrastructure continues to grow, consumers may see more technology products becoming expensive in the coming months.
