Cricket has never been a globally renowned sport. Although the sport is huge in India, it is not that known globally and has only 12 full time members. But that hasn’t stopped Virat Kohli from achieving global recognition as he has become the unsaid brand ambassador of cricket. The instance of this was seen recently in the French open when the commentators compared Carlos Alcaraz to the great cricketer.

In the finals of the French Open 2025 Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s Jannik Sinner locked horns with each other in a grueling contest which turned out to be the longest final ever in French Open history. Seeing the grit and willingness to win of the 22-year-old Alcaraz, commentators couldn’t help but compare him to Virat Kohli who is widely known for his never give up attitude.

The commentators saw the craft, skill, and grit that Alcaraz showed against Sinner in their clash in the finals and it reminded them of Virat Kohli. Just like how Kohli took the cricketing world by storm, Alcaraz has been smashing records and is climbing the ranks day by day. His rise to prominence and the success he has achieved in the sport is all because of his ability to adapt and excel in all conditions and find ways to beat most of the opponents he faces.

Carlos Alcaraz, was the current reigning champion coming into the finals and Jannik Sinner is the world number 1, so everyone knew the finals was going to be a great match up. Sinner started the match great, winning the first two games of the match. But Alcaraz was not backing down and crafted a major comeback winning the next 3 games and clinching the title.

The match went on for 5 hours 29 minutes with 5 games going 4-6, 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (10/2) and the last one going to the brink as both players put on an all-time classic. With the finals win, Alcaraz became the third youngest 5-time Grand slam champion after Rafael Nadal and Bjorn Borg.
