This year the long wait for a championship ended for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru after they defeated the Punjab Kings in the finals of the Indian Premier League. The fans and the management waited 18 years to finally see a trophy in their cabinet. One player who was present for all those 18 years was Virat Kohli so when the team finally won not only the fans but the whole franchise dedicated the win to Kohli.
Although Rajat Patidar was the captain of RCB, he didn’t mind the spotlight being put on Kohli this time and fans loved this gesture of their new captain. While in most cases the captain of the team gets showered with praises and has the attention of the world around him, this time Kohli got media’s full attention this time.
The most surprising moment of the post-match celebrations came when people saw a surprising turn of events as Patidar broke the tradition. It is an unsaid tradition that the captain usually signs the camera lens after winning the tournament as a thankful gesture to fans but this time it wasn’t Patidar who signed the camera. Patidar being the big-hearted person that he is, he brought Kohli over in the huddle and handed him the pen to sign the camera and bid adieu to the fans until the next season.
It was not only Kohli who was showered with attention after winning the trophy for the first time. The holy trinity of RCB – Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle were in the spotlight as they were the main players of RCB for a long period of time. They were even present at the Champions banner for the photos with the winning team.
RCB fans were on 7th heaven after winning the title but the tragic incident that happened outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The stampede saw the loss of 11 innocent lives due to poor management while more than 50 were injured. RCB management has been under serious scrutiny after the horrific incident.
