The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have reached the finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after 9 years and are looking to win the championship for the first time ever in the franchise history. The franchise has one of the biggest fan bases in the league if not the biggest and all its fans have their fingers crossed hoping for a victory.
While fans await their first title, England legends and commentators Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton are not so keen about it. The commentators took a dig at the batting coach and mentor of RCB, Dinesh Karthik saying he will be unbearable if he wins the cup in his first stint as the coach.
In the Sky Sports podcast, Nasser Hussain jokingly said. “RCB have got through to the finals. If they win that, DK is going to be unbearable. One season as coach/mentor and he’s won it.”
Michael Atherton added, “He’s unbearable at the best of times, he’s going to be doubly unbearable. He’ll be like John Terry, at the front of the RCB trophy presentation holding it there with Virat Kohli.”
DK has been part of the commentary panel and has pursued a career as an expert until he was roped in as the batting coach for RCB. He has worked alongside both Hussain and Atherton who are fearing the banter that might follow if DK lifts the trophy with RCB.
RCB has turned the fortunes this season coming out as one of the strongest teams of the tournament and Karthik has had a major influence in their success. Karthik spoke about his role in detail to the media and said, “Being part of RCB is a very special feeling. Purely because of the brand of cricket that we play, but also the fans that we have. And most importantly, it’s a journey that’s been filled with lots of highs and lows. But the trophy hadn’t reached the shores of Bangalore yet. If I could be part of that journey, why not? That was a big question in my mind. I know how close we were when I played. So, here’s another opportunity for me as a coach.”
