Rajasthan Royal’s (RR) Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old cricketer from Bihar, Samastipur left the people of his state overjoyed and excited as he becomes the youngest player in the history of IPL to score a century in just 35 balls.
It was a day of immense pride for the residents of his hometown who celebrated Suryavanshi’s victory by bursting crackers, dancing with joy, and cutting cakes. An unforgettable day for the state of Bihar, it will be etched in history to honor the young cricket sensation.
Suryavanshi, aged 14 years and 32 days old, smashed 11 sixes and seven fours in his 37-ball-101 innings against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. This has also made him the player with a second-fastest IPL hundred trailing behind Chris Gayle. Gayle achieved the feat in 30 balls whilst playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors in April 2013.
By scoring his century in 35 balls, Suryavanshi surpassed Yusuf Pathan’s previous mark of 37 balls, achieved for RR against Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2010.
IPL has witnessed other remarkable performances this season including Punjab Kings’ Priyansh Arya 39-ball century against Chennai Super Kings followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma who scored his 100 in just 40 balls.
