Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has reportedly received a death threat, following which he has approached the Delhi Police to file a formal complaint to safeguard his family’s security.
The former BJP MP received two mails from a suspicious entity ‘ISIS Kashmir’ with a message that read ‘IKillU’. The threats were received on April 22, the same day terrorists killed 26 people in the Kashmir terror attack that has taken the entire nation by storm.
Informing the Rajender Nagar SHO and DCP Central regarding the worrisome incident, PS to Gambhir wrote a mail stating, “As we spoke, please find below the “Threat Mails” received on the mail ID of Mr Gautam Gambhir (Ex- MP) Head Coach Indian Cricket Team. Kindly register the F.l.R accordingly and ensure the safety and security of the family.” The mail was acknowledged by DCP (Central) V Harsha Vardhan, who responded saying, “We have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The matter is being investigated. Gautam Gambhir is already under Delhi Police protection, and we do not comment on specific security arrangements.”
Gambhir was one of the many Indian sporting personalities to raise his voice against the Pahalgam terror attacks. “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike,” he has posted on X.
Gambhir has been away from the limelight after India’s Champions Trophy win in March this year. He was appointed as Team India’s head coach in July last year, replacing his World Cup-winning predecessor Rahul Dravid.
