India’s live entertainment industry achieved a historic milestone in 2024, crossing the Rs.10,000 crore mark for the first time as it surged to Rs.10,100 crore in revenue, according to the latest EY-FICCI Media & Entertainment (M&E) report. This 15% year-on-year growth makes live events the fastest-growing segment in the country’s entertainment landscape, outpacing traditional sectors like television and print.

The rapid expansion is driven by a nationwide appetite for experiential entertainment, with concerts, cultural tours, immersive shows, and large-scale events drawing record crowds from both metropolitan hubs and emerging tier-2 and tier-3 cities. The report highlights a significant shift in consumer behavior, as audiences increasingly seek real-world, shared experiences, moving beyond passive content consumption. Notably, the momentum is no longer confined to major metros; cities like Indore, Lucknow, Surat, and Jaipur are emerging as vibrant destinations for live performances and international acts.

Industry analysts attribute this growth to several factors: a post-pandemic resurgence in public gatherings, increased investments in event technology, and the diversification of live offerings to include stand-up comedy, wellness retreats, motivational speaking, and hybrid digital-physical experiences.

Government and election-related events, as well as high-profile weddings and international concerts, have also played a key role in boosting revenues.

Looking ahead, the live entertainment sector is projected to maintain its strong momentum, with forecasts suggesting it could reach Rs.16,700 crore by 2027, growing at an impressive 18.2% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Industry leaders believe that if current trends continue, India will not only solidify its position as a premier destination for global entertainment acts but also emerge as an exporter of unique cultural experiences.

As digital media overtakes television and advertising revenues climb, live entertainment stands out as a beacon of growth in India’s evolving media and entertainment ecosystem, signalling a new era defined by immersive, communal, and culturally rich experiences.
