In a pivotal meeting that underscores the strengthening ties between the United States and India, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan convened with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in New Delhi. The discussions focused on a range of critical issues, including nuclear cooperation, advanced technologies, and regional security dynamics.
One of the most significant outcomes of the meeting was Sullivan’s announcement regarding efforts to delist Indian nuclear entities from US sanctions. This move is expected to pave the way for enhanced civil nuclear cooperation between the two nations. Sullivan emphasized that this step would not only bolster India’s energy security but also promote clean energy initiatives.
The discussions also touched upon updates to US missile export control policies. Sullivan revealed plans to streamline these regulations, which would facilitate greater commercial collaboration in aerospace and defense sectors. Doval welcomed these developments, noting that increased defense cooperation is essential for maintaining stability in South Asia.
A major theme of the meeting was the emphasis on advanced technologies as a cornerstone of bilateral relations. Both Sullivan and Doval highlighted the importance of innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. The India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET), launched in 2022, was cited as a framework through which both nations can collaborate effectively.
Sullivan’s visit comes at a crucial time as it is widely seen as a farewell trip before Donald Trump’s anticipated inauguration later this month. As they concluded their discussions, both leaders underscored the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation for taking ahead the US-India relations in future.
