A bi-annual Asian American Voter Survey (AAVS), the longest-running survey of Asian-American voters released on Wednesday, is pointing towards a steep decline of 19% support from Indian Americans for the incumbent President Joe Biden, during the period between the last election in 2020 and the current year’s election cycle.

The voter survey conducted by Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote), AAPI Data, Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC) and AARP, has revealed that 46% of the Indian diaspora in the US is showing an inclination to vote for Biden this year as against 65% in 2020.

As per the survey, over a two-thirds majority (68%) of Asian American voters reported worrying about hate crimes, harassment, and discrimination. Most importantly, major issues impacting Asian American voters include jobs and the economy, inflation, healthcare, crime, education, Social Security and Medicare, cost of housing, national security, gun control, and immigration.

The jaw-dropping decline of 19% is the biggest out of all the Asian-American ethnic communities. As per the survey, conducted before the June 27 presidential debate between Biden and his Republican challenger Donald Trump, 46% of Asian Americans are considering voting for Biden, which is down 8% points since 2020, while 31% are considering voting for Trump, gaining 1% point since the last US Presidential election held in 2020.
