Neera Tanden, the domestic policy advisor to President Joe Biden, highlighted the significant role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening the India-US relationship.

She emphasized that even during tense moments between the two countries, it’s the people—the Indians with family and relatives in the United States—who have helped build the US-India relationship stronger. These Indian Americans only helped conceive a strong vision of the US. This deep connection influences how India perceives the US, making it fundamentally important as they continue to make progress together.

“I really do believe it is the diaspora that has played a huge role in building this relationship to where it is today,” she said.

Tanden, a top White House official, was speaking in a fireside chat with former US Ambassador to India Tim Roemer during the seventh annual leadership summit of the US-India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF) held in Washington on June 17.
