During an Ask me Anything session on US -India relations based on technology, the US Ambassador emphasized that it is technology that is connecting us the most. The US is supporting India’s efforts in areas such as sustainable development that benefit both countries.
Ambassador Garcetti mentioned how climate change is affecting real people. He said, “In my own hometown, Los Angeles, due to extreme weather situations like floods, fires, etc, and people dying around the world because of unbearable heat. While we all strive to use renewable energy and better electric transportation, the US is partnering and collaborating with India in many spheres of sustainability.
On being asked, ‘How do you see the role of technology and innovation in advancing US-India partnerships in various sectors? He said, “Indians and Americans are total tech geeks. We love the latest gadgets. We want the newest innovation. Plenty of our people are trying to figure out a better way to connect people, to protect people, and use technology to detect diseases, and technology is a platform for the US-India relationship. AI is the future for America whether it is augmented intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductor products, bio-technology or climate technology.
“The National Security Advisors of both countries have discussed initiatives on critical emerging technologies. We are finding companies between India and US to collaborate and students who are coming to each other’s campuses to be the next generation innovators.”
Garcetti had earlier mentioned that India is the most important country for the US and their relationship is the most defining relationship of the century.
