When it was announced that Jasprit Bumrah will not be part of the fifth test of Anderson Tendulkar Trophy and will even be released from the squad ahead, people suspected whether the star pacer had some serious injury. It was recently revealed that Bumrah was suffering from a knee injury but the reports have confirmed that it is not a major one.
Even though it was announced before the series that Bumrah will only be part of three matches of the series, people hoped that with 8 day gaps between 1st-2nd Tests and 3rd-4th Tests Bumrah might play the last one. But in a press release the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced, “Mr. Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India’s squad for the fifth Test of the series against England. The fifth and final Test of the series is underway at Kennington Oval, London.”
An official from the BCCI has reported that the star pacer is suffering from a knee injury but it is not a major one and won’t require surgery. He also stated that with the Asia Cup approaching, the pacer would be itching to get back in the game. He highlighted that it would’ve been very risky to play him in the fifth test at the Oval.
“Unfortunately, Bumrah is suffering from a knee injury. The good thing is that it’s not a major one and won’t require surgery. The BCCI medical team is currently awaiting his scan reports,” a BCCI official stated.
“There is an Asia Cup around the corner, the T20 World Cup is also there. He would want to play those events. Considering his body, he can’t play every game. He needs to be managed with extra care. Playing him at The Oval would have been a huge risk. Going forward, there needs to be a clear plan on how to manage Bumrah’s Test career,” the official added.
