Saiyaara has become a soaring hit which no one had anticipated before its release. Many famous personalities from the Bollywood industry have appreciated the film and the performances of both debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has also joined the list of celebrities to comment on the new movie as he gave his take on his nephew Mohit Suri’s most recent venture.
Recently, Mahesh Bhatt was on The Himanshu Mehta Show where he talked about Saiyaara. Bhatt had some high words for Mohit Suri, who happens to be his nephew. He stated that Suri has his own style and is making a name for himself. However, Bhatt pointed out that the industry is lacking originality and the idea of taking plots and stories that cater to the masses entices them.
“There’s another young filmmaker, who happens to be my nephew, Mohit Suri. He’s made a film called Saiyaara, which is coming out on the 18th. He made Aashiqui 2 (2013) for me. He’s a bright, young boy. He has his own style, and he’s coming into his own. But I don’t see an original voice in the landscape today,” Bhatt said.
“The burden of an instant box office hit, this box office albatross is weighing down everybody. It makes people take plots and stories which titillate and cater to the senses. I don’t see filmmakers with great depth anymore,” Bhatt added.
The filmmaker also had high praises for Anupam Kher’s debut directorial venture Tanvi The Great and stated that the film oozes originality. He commended Kher’s courage to go all in with such an offbeat project and even making it work.
“It’s a film which roots for the most vulnerable, an autistic child. And he’s put in all his own money. I’m awestruck by his courage. I’m so proud that what I ripped up in him, which was there in him 41 years ago in Saaransh, is now coming into full bloom, and on his own,” added Bhatt.
