The third test match between India and England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground was one for the ages. The match went down to the wire with a grueling last day of cricket which saw India’s tail enders alongside Ravindra Jadeja putting up a fight against the fiery English pace attack. India’s captain Shubman Gill stated that he was “Extremely proud” of how this match panned out.

Gill was asked about how he felt about the performance of his team in the match during the post-match prize distribution ceremony. The Indian captain stated that he was proud of how close this match went. He thought that they could’ve won the match if they had a couple of 50-run partnerships while chasing.

“Extremely proud it was as close a Test match as it can get, played over five days and comes down to the last session. I was pretty confident of our chances with plenty of batting left. We needed a couple of 50-run partnerships but we weren’t able to get that,” Gill said.

Gill was also asked about the bizarre runout of Rishabh Pant in the first innings as it was one of the turning points of the match. Some people even raised questions on whether the batters were focusing on their personal records but Gill dismissed it stating it was just an error of judgement.

Gill said, “Actually it was an error of judgement as far as the run is concerned and that can happen. And if you look closely, it was KL bhai, who was running at the danger’s end.”

Gill reflected on how India have played better in most parts of all the 3 tests, but the results and scorecard don’t reflect that. He said, “Of 15 days of Test cricket, we dominated the maximum days but the sessions that were bad were so bad that we lost two games. The series scorecard won’t reflect how we have played.”
