Shrina Kurani appointed as Deputy Director of Venture Capital at the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank

California Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced the appointment of Shrina Kurani, of Riverside, as Deputy Director of Venture Capital at the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank.

Kurani has been a Venture Specialist at the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank since 2023 and a Managing Partner at SNØCAP since 2022. She was Vice President of Business at Republic from 2018 to 2022. Kurani was an Associate at Better Ventures from 2017 to 2018.

Kurani’s investment experience includes facilitating over $175M with Better Ventures, Republic, and SNØCAP. Before joining IBank, Shrina built multiple companies and ran for United States Congress in 2022 on a climate and innovation platform.

Kurani co-founded SNØCAP, an early-stage venture fund focused on deeptech climate solutions and is on the board of Grid110, a non-profit organization serving underrepresented entrepreneurs across Southern California.

She was on the executive team at Republic, democratizing access to capital through new regulation and technology, and launched the Cities program to serve founders in underinvested regions beginning in Riverside, CA.

She earned a Master of Science degree in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science from Lund University, Sweden’s top university for sustainability, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from her hometown’s University of California, Riverside.

Kurani’s first engineering projects were with NASA and the Southern California Gas Company, and after conducting her master’s thesis research in carbon sequestration of biomass in the Mediterranean, Kurani became involved in the United Nations Climate Change Conferences following the Paris Agreement at COP21. She has since participated in international climate negotiations in Marrakech, Bonn, Katowice, and Glasgow.

This position does not require Senate confirmation, and the compensation is $165,000. Kurani is a Democrat.
