In a significant development for higher education in the UAE, the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is set to establish its first overseas campus in Dubai, with plans to commence operations by the second half of 2025. This announcement was made by Sunjay Sudhir, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, during a recent press briefing.
The decision to open an IIM-A campus in Dubai stems from discussions held between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during the World Government Summit earlier this year.
Ambassador Sudhir highlighted that this new campus will provide students with access to world-class MBA programs without the need to relocate to India. “The establishment of IIM-A’s campus in Dubai is a testament to our commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for our diaspora and others in the region,” he stated. “It will serve as a hub for aspiring business leaders who wish to gain a prestigious education while remaining close to home.”
The establishment of IIM-A’s Dubai campus is more than just an educational initiative; it represents a strategic move in strengthening India-UAE relations. Over the years, both nations have fostered strong economic ties, with increasing trade value.
As plans for the IIM-A campus progress, stakeholders are optimistic about its potential impact on both students and the local economy. The curriculum will likely incorporate cutting-edge business practices and innovative teaching methods, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for leadership roles in an increasingly competitive global market.
