The lovers of Hindustani classical music are in for a melodious tryst with Grammy award-winning instrumentalist, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt at St. George’s Bristol and Strode Theatre. These concerts are part of his UK tour on June 4, presented by Asian Arts Agency. He will be accompanied by Pandit Subhen Chatterjee, a famed tabla artist for musical harmony.
Bhatt’s illustrious career is marked by mesmerizing stage performances in more than 80 nations of the world, enthralling audiences at prestigious venues and music festivals. One of his memorable performances was held at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, with music lovers across the world applauding his talent and artistry. Bhatt belongs to a family with a rich and three centuries-old musical legacy, continuing to build and spread the heritage of Indian classical music. He is a maestro of Hindustani classical music in the true sense and hails from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The album “A Meeting by the River” prepared along with Ry Cooder in 1993 was the fusion of Bhatt’s Mohana Veena, an altered version of the steel guitar, with Cooder’s masterful guitar skills. This album earned him the prestigious Grammy Award. The Indian Government has honored him with many accolades and bestowed him with the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and Sangeet Natak Academy awards, recognizing him as one of India’s most revered musicians.
Bhatt has created an ingenious musical instrument, the Mohana Veena, incorporating elements from various traditional Indian stringed instruments.
