Vietnamese authorities have arrested the captain of a tourist boat that capsized in the country’s waters, leaving 15 Indian nationals dead, as investigators probe alleged violations of maritime safety regulations that may have contributed to the tragedy.
The arrest comes amid an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Officials said preliminary findings indicate possible breaches of operational and safety rules, prompting legal action against the captain. Authorities are examining whether negligence, improper safety measures, or other violations played a role in the fatal incident.
The capsize claimed the lives of 15 Indian tourists, making it one of the deadliest maritime accidents involving Indian citizens abroad in recent years. Rescue teams launched an extensive search and recovery operation following the incident, while Vietnamese authorities coordinated with the Indian Embassy to assist victims’ families and facilitate consular support.
The Indian government has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and has been closely monitoring developments. Diplomatic officials are working with Vietnamese authorities to ensure the identification of victims, repatriation of mortal remains, and assistance for survivors and their relatives.
Vietnamese investigators have stated that the probe will determine whether the vessel complied with mandatory safety standards, passenger capacity regulations, and weather advisories before setting sail. Authorities have pledged strict action against those found responsible for any lapses that may have led to the disaster.
