India-born bowling all-rounder Jai Mundra has received his first international call-up after being named in Ireland’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against India, creating a unique opportunity for the youngster to represent Ireland against the country of his birth.

Mundra is among the new faces included in Ireland’s 14-member squad for the two-match T20I series, which marks a fresh phase for the Irish side under new captain Lorcan Tucker. The inclusion highlights Ireland’s focus on developing emerging talent as the team begins preparations for future global competitions.

The upcoming series will be a significant milestone in Mundra’s career as he looks to make his international debut. The player, who has Indian roots, could now find himself competing against India in a high-profile contest, adding an emotional dimension to his first appearance at the international level.

Ireland’s squad has undergone changes ahead of the India series, with several experienced players unavailable due to injuries. The absence of senior names has opened the door for newcomers such as Mundra, Matthew Hollard and Reuben Wilson to make their mark on the international stage.

Wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker has taken over as Ireland’s T20I captain, replacing Paul Stirling, as the team begins a new cycle in the shortest format. Tucker said the opportunity to lead the side was a major responsibility and expressed confidence in guiding younger players.

India, meanwhile, will enter the series with a strong squad led by new T20I captain Shreyas Iyer. Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has also been included in India’s squad, adding further attention to the contest.

The two-match T20I series is scheduled to be played in Belfast, with Ireland hoping that its new players can challenge a strong Indian team. For Mundra, the series could become the beginning of an international career and a memorable chapter in Ireland cricket’s evolving story.
