Tata Electronics has confirmed that it suffered a cybersecurity incident after a ransomware group claimed to have released confidential files allegedly linked to Apple and Tesla, raising concerns over data security in India’s growing electronics manufacturing sector. The company, however, said its operations remain unaffected and response measures were activated immediately.
The breach claim emerged after cybersecurity researchers reported that the ransomware group World Leaks had published more than 200,000 files, amounting to over 630 GB of data, on the dark web. The group alleged that the files contained sensitive documents related to Tata Electronics’ global clients, including component designs, manufacturing specifications, internal communications and other technical records.
Some documents reportedly carried references associated with Apple’s manufacturing processes and Tesla’s internal projects, including files marked as proprietary or confidential. However, the authenticity of the leaked material could not be independently verified immediately. Apple has begun examining the matter, while both Apple and Tesla have not issued public comments.
Tata Electronics, a key supplier in Apple’s India manufacturing expansion, said it detected the incident several weeks ago and deployed its cybersecurity protocols. The company maintained that the breach did not disrupt its business operations.
The incident highlights increasing cybersecurity risks faced by companies involved in global supply chains. As India positions itself as a major electronics manufacturing hub, protecting intellectual property and sensitive industrial data has become a critical challenge for manufacturers and technology partners.
Security experts said the alleged data exposure could have implications beyond Tata Electronics, as suppliers often handle confidential information related to product design, quality checks and production systems of multinational companies. The breach comes at a time when Tata is expanding its role in Apple’s supply chain and strengthening India’s position in electronics manufacturing.
