India’s defence exports reached a new peak of Rs 38,424 crore in the financial year 2025-26. This marks a sharp rise of 62 per cent from the previous year.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh shared the good news on social media platform X. He said the big jump of Rs 14,802 crore shows growing global trust in India’s home-made defence items and strong manufacturing skills. Singh called it a success story for the country. The exports beat last year’s figure of Rs 23,622 crore.
Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) led the growth with 54.84 per cent share. They exported goods worth Rs 21,071 crore, up 151 per cent. Private companies added 45.16 per cent, with Rs 17,353 crore in sales, growing 14 per cent. This team effort highlights a healthy defence sector.
India now sends defence items to over 80 countries. Key products include the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. In 2022, the Philippines signed a $375 million deal for its shore-based version.
This milestone comes under the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat drives. The government eased export rules and pushed local firms to join in. Back in 2020, leaders set a target of Rs 35,000 crore by now. India has gone beyond it.
Experts say this boom makes India a strong player in the world defence market. It also cuts reliance on imports. As global needs rise, India’s defence story looks set to grow further.
