Recently, former Indian cricketer, Irfan Pathan has found himself in a heap of controversy out of nowhere as an old video of his has gone viral. One line that is making rounds across the internet is when Pathan said, “I don’t have a habit of setting up hookah in someone’s room or talking unnecessarily.” Now, Pathan has raised questions on the re-surfacing of a five year old video.

This Thursday, on September 4th, a fan commented on a photo of Pathan with Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, asking Pathan about the whole hookah situation. He wrote, “Pathan bhai, woh hookah ka kya hua? (Pathan bhai, what happened to the hookah)?”

However, the former Indian all-rounder gave him a cheeky reply saying, “Main aur MS Dhoni saath baith kar piyenge 😉 (Me and MS Dhoni will sit together and smoke).”

Pathan didn’t stop with that, in another post on X he hinted that there might be some conspiracy as the video has resurfaced after nearly half a decade and people are presenting it with a different context. He stated that there could be a ‘Fan War’ involved or could be someone’s PR working against him.

“Half-decade-old video surfacing NOW with a twisted context to the statement. Fan war? PR lobby?” Pathan wrote on X.

The whole controversy started when a video resurfaced where Irfan was talking about the time when he was omitted from the Indian team even though he took a five-wicket haul in his last match. There were reports stating that captain MS Dhoni wasn’t impressed with his performance so he had a chat with Dhoni about it who completely refused any such narrative.

Irfan stated that he believed MS at that time but never played for the Indian team after 2012. In the video Irfan cryptically stated that he doesn’t have a habit of setting up hookah for anyone which many deduced was a slight dig at Dhoni.

He said, “I don’t have a habit of setting up hookah in someone’s room or talking unnecessarily. Everyone knows. Sometimes, it’s better not to speak. A cricketer’s job is to perform on the field, and that’s what I focused on.”
