Indian Cricket Test team is in a state of turmoil as of late with the announcement of Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the longest format of the game. With the captain gone from the team, the selectors have a hefty job in hand to select the captain of the Indian team and steer the team in the right direction moving forward. But what has come out as a shocking news is that another red-ball veteran has told the BCCI that he wants to retire from the format.

It has been reported that Virat Kohli has told the BCCI that he has decided to retire from the longest format of the game. The board has asked the star batsman to reconsider his decision once, before taking the final call on his career. The management has asked him to rethink the decision keeping in mind the crucial England tour that will begin on 20th June. It has been reported that Kohli has still not reverted back and the decision is not finalized yet.

The decision can be seen as a result of Kohli’s string of low scores in the Border Gavaskar Trophy where the right-handed batter only managed to score a single hundred that too in the first match of the series. In nine innings of the 5 matches he played, Kohli only managed to score 190 runs and was getting dismissed in a similar fashion. It is to be believed that Kohli has been reconciling about his future in test cricket ever since the series ended.

With Rohit Sharma already retired and Virat Kohli also contemplating his future in the red ball format, the Indian team will be missing the leadership of its two most veteran players. The selectors will be meeting soon to select the squad for the 5-match England tour. They will also be selecting the new test captain of the team. Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are currently reported to be in contention for the captaincy and the decision will be made shortly.
