The tensions between India and Pakistan have risen to serious heights and it is public knowledge that the two nations don’t see eye to eye. However, as per the reports coming out, India has extended a gesture of goodwill towards their neighbours by alerting them about the flood situation in the Tawi River, this Sunday, on August 24th.
While the reports have come out highlighting the transfer of information, there has been no official confirmation regarding the development by either India or Pakistan till now. If the claims and reports are believed to be correct, this would mark the first time that the country has used a diplomatic mission to convey such information.
It was reported that India forwarded the information to Pakistan through the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. In normal instances such information is usually shared between the two nations through the Indus Water Commissioner pertaining to the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). But as the IWT remains in abeyance, the Pakistani media has reported that the Indian government had to use other channels to convey the information.
The reports also revealed that after receiving the information through the Indian High Commission, the authorities in Pakistan have issued warnings throughout the region and have started taking measures to counter the floods in Tawi River.
This year the monsoon season has wreaked havoc all across Pakistan and rains are showing no signs of slowing down. The heavy rains have been fatal with around 788 people losing their lives in the process and more than 1,000 people have suffered serious injuries through these heavy monsoons since June 26th.
As per the figures released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan, the total number of dead included 200 children, 117 women and 471 men. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region has reported the highest with 469 deaths in the country.
