India’s journey towards the Asia Cup has been barred with controversies whether it is regarding their fixture with Pakistan or the controversial squad selections. Now, as the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, got passed by the Indian Parliament, reports have come out that fantasy-sports platform Dream11 is going to withdraw as the lead sponsor of the Indian team.
Just a few weeks before the start of the Asia Cup, the withdrawal of their lead sponsor could be troublesome for the India cricket team on the commercial aspect of the things. However, getting the opportunity to be the title sponsor of the Indian Cricket Team is still a very lucrative deal and brands would be willing to take up the opportunity.
There has been no official statement issued by the BCCI on the matter as of yet and people still await to see what the board is going to do. However, the Secretary, Devajit Saikia did make a comment this Friday, on August 22nd, stating clearly that the BCCI would be adhering to any policy that the country is going to form.
Saikia said, “If it’s not permissible, we won’t do anything. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country as framed by the central government.”
The Asian tournament is going to start in a couple of weeks from September 9th and it is highly likely that the Indian team will have a new sponsor before the beginning. It is being reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will soon be inviting brands for new bids for the rights to sponsor the Indian jersey and with limited time left the race for sponsorship would be one to watch for.
