As a pet parent, keeping your pet happy and healthy becomes the first priority. Once they have adopted a pet, the furry friend becomes one of the most important and irreplaceable part of a human’s day to day lives. But one of the hardest challenges that they can face is when their pet falls sick or has any medical emergencies.
Most pet parents are not aware of the expenses that animal treatment can rise up to in case of any criticality and thus having pet insurance is a very crucial thing for anyone who owns a pet. The advancement in the animal health industry has been constantly improving but that comes with a price. These expenses can weigh your pockets down by so much that providing perfect health care can become a nightmare for you.
A well reputed veterinary surgeon Nameeta Nadkarni has shed some light on the struggles of being a pet parent and how sometimes they aren’t even prepared for medical expenses. She said that the major talk is not about the one-off emergencies but health conditions that can take time and require constant visits and long-term treatments. The pets who are suffering from chronic illnesses like Diabetes and Cancer can burn a hole in the wallet of their caretaker.
Dr. Nadkarni stated that these long-term illnesses are highly expensive. For example, a chronic illness could cost you anywhere from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per month. And for major surgeries, depending on various factors, Nadkarni said the bill could range from Rs 30,000 to Rs 80,000. These bills can affect any household invariably and that is why having health insurance for pets becomes a must.
These insurances can also come in handy in case of a freak accident or an injury. Accidents can come out of nowhere so having your pet insured can take care of all the healthcare bills. These insurances also assure you of any specific breed related issue like hip dysplasia in large dogs to respiratory issues in flat-faced breeds.
