The second meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) took place at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in the wake of the Pahalgam attack killing 26 tourists in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22. The committee, headed by Modi, focused on reviewing security preparedness with an earlier briefing underscoring “cross-border linkages” to the bloodshed.

The CCS meeting was followed by a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) and Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). The meeting underlined discussions regarding the request made by Opposition for a special session of Parliament.

Pakistan had opened fire along the International border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pargawal sector last night on Tuesday. Earlier, Islamabad had tried to provoke New Delhi by violating the ceasefire along the Line of Control. According to defence sources, India had responded effectively.

On Tuesday, PM Modi had also chaired a high-level meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also participated in the discussions.

In the first CCS briefing on April 23, the committee had announced a series of punitive measures against Pakistan including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, closure of the Integrated Check Post at Attari, revocation of visas for Pakistani nationals, and a reduction in the diplomatic presence of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

“The CCS resolved that perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack will be brought to justice and their sponsors held to account. India will be unrelenting in pursuit of those who have committed acts of terror, or conspired to make them possible,” Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had said during a special press conference post CCS.
