“An important and necessary initiative for Brazil”: BRICS Bank President
Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Development Bank (NDB), enthusiastically welcomed the presentation of the Global South Institute, a Brazilian initiative created to promote knowledge production, the exchange of ideas and cooperation between Brazil and other countries of the Global South.
The Institute was presented by journalist Leonardo Attuch, President of the Global South Institute and founder of Brasil 247. After learning about the proposal and the objectives of the new institution, Rousseff praised the initiative and highlighted its importance for Brazil.
“I think this is an excellent and necessary initiative for Brazil. It is very good to see a Brazilian media group taking the initiative to create an institute focused on Global South issues,” said the NDB President.
During the conversation, Attuch explained that the Institute intends to serve as a bridge connecting think tanks, universities, companies, governments and institutions across developing countries, with a particular focus on promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences among Brazil, China, India, Russia, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and other nations of the Global South.
One of the key areas discussed was the need to broaden the debate in Brazil about the technological transformations currently underway, including sovereign artificial intelligence, digitalization, robotics, new materials and other technologies capable of modernizing both traditional industrial sectors and emerging economic activities.
In recent days, Attuch has presented the new Brazilian think tank to leading international policy and research institutions, with the aim of expanding mutual understanding and building new bridges of cooperation among countries of the Global South.
One of the initiative’s main priorities is to bring Brazil closer to the major debates on development, technological sovereignty and innovation currently taking place across the Global South, strengthening the country’s ability to participate actively in the economic and technological transformations of the 21st century.
