Overwhelmed by the soaring cost of living in the United States, Elliot Rosenberg, a US entrepreneur, made a bold decision that transformed his life. Leaving behind the financial pressures of America, Rosenberg now enjoys a fulfilling lifestyle in India for under ₹1 lakh per month. His story underscores India’s appeal as an affordable and vibrant destination for global citizens seeking financial independence and a better quality of life.
Rosenberg, who holds a degree in Commerce and Latin American Studies from the University of Virginia, initially left the US 12 years ago, disillusioned by inflation and societal “lifestyle creep.” In a LinkedIn post that has since gone viral, he explained how societal pressures to spend on luxuries like dining out and entertainment made it challenging to save or invest. “Inflation is bad, but ‘lifestyle creep’ is worse,” he noted.
After traveling through Brazil and South Asia, Rosenberg chose India as his home nine years ago. Settling in Goa, he embraced the local culture, learned Hindi, married an Indian woman, and started two successful businesses. He credits India’s affordability and community-driven culture for his financial stability and personal happiness. “I met my wife here, became close to her family, made lifelong bonds, and built businesses,” he shared.
India’s low cost of living has allowed Rosenberg to maintain a comfortable lifestyle while saving significantly. The country’s robust economic growth—marked by a 7.2% GDP increase ending March 2023—further highlights its potential as a hub for entrepreneurs and expatriates alike.
