India marked its 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, with vibrant celebrations spanning from Srinagar to Bengaluru and the Wagah border to Tripura. The main event took place at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the national flag, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution in 1950. The Republic Day parade featured Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the chief guest, underscoring India’s diplomatic relations.
A total of 31 tableaux showcased the country’s cultural diversity and military strength, including a significant tri-service tableau that highlighted the integration of the armed forces. Over 5,000 artists participated in the festivities, adding color and vibrancy to the occasion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the day by paying homage at the National War Memorial, honoring the sacrifices of Indian soldiers. Following this tribute, a ceremonial march past of various military contingents took place, showcasing India’s defense capabilities and unity.
Celebrations were not confined to the capital; state capitals across India embraced the spirit of Republic Day with their own unique events. In Srinagar, traditional Kashmiri music and dance performances captivated audiences, while in Bengaluru, a grand parade featured local cultural displays and technological innovations.
At the Wagah border, thousands gathered for the iconic Beating Retreat ceremony, where Indian soldiers engaged in a spirited display of patriotism. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as spectators cheered for India.
In Tripura, local schools and communities organized celebrations that emphasized national pride and unity. Colorful processions showcased traditional attire and folk dances that celebrated the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Throughout India, citizens participated in various activities such as flag hoisting ceremonies, cultural programs, and community service initiatives. Schools held special assemblies to educate students about the significance of Republic Day and the importance of upholding democratic values.
As India continues to grow as a global power, this Republic Day served as a reminder of the nation’s commitment to democracy, unity in diversity, and progress.
