The inaugural IndiXspark: Celebrating Indian American Ideas event, held on October 19, 2024, was a tremendous success, bringing together the Indian American community for a day of insightful talks, vibrant networking, and cultural celebration. Founded by Neha Mahajan and her co-founder for this event, Dr. Asha Menon, the event delivered on its promise to amplify diverse stories centered around the theme, “First-Time Immigrant Experience.”
The evening began with a mesmerizing sitar performance by Anju Bedi of Vancouver, setting a cultural tone that resonated throughout the event. This was followed by an open networking hour where participants connected and exchanged ideas, keeping the atmosphere lively and engaging.
Each speaker brought a unique perspective and powerful message, resonating deeply with the audience:
Neha Mahajan, a renowned community advocate and media professional, spoke about the power of speaking up, sharing her journey of advocating for immigrant rights and how navigating restrictive immigration visas fueled her passion for uplifting others.
Aneri Desai, a career coach for immigrant women, shared her insights on the power of resilience, captivating the audience with her personal story of overcoming obstacles and demonstrating how resilience can unlock new opportunities for immigrant women.
Nithin Eapen, a tech innovator and entrepreneur, emphasized the power of right communication for career success, illustrating how effective communication can propel personal and professional growth.
Prema Roddam, Senior Associate at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP, focused on the power of second chances. As a global mobility and immigration expert, she shared the importance of reinvention and the opportunities that come with embracing second chances.
Dr. Vineeth John, Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at UT Health Houston, explored the power of risk-taking, encouraging attendees to step beyond their comfort zones and emphasizing how calculated risks can lead to significant growth both personally and professionally.
Anjali Mehrotra, politician and activist, highlighted the power of representation, stressing the importance of diverse voices in politics and society and how representation can empower marginalized communities.
Dr. Asha Menon, a physician and author, delivered a poignant poem on the power of America.
In addition to the captivating talks, the event featured an exhibit of Mithila art by award-winning, self-taught artist Shivangi Singh. Her intricate and vibrant work, rooted in traditional Indian art forms, mesmerized attendees and added a unique cultural depth to the event.
Also on display was the newly launched skincare line, MOOIE’Z et pure, which drew significant attention for its innovative, nature-inspired products. The presence of these exhibits highlighted the creative and entrepreneurial spirit within the Indian American community.
The event’s seamless flow was orchestrated by the charismatic emcee, Neena Bhanti, whose vibrant energy kept the audience fully engaged. Her dynamic hosting ensured that every segment was entertaining and impactful, leaving no one feeling bored.
To round out the event, attendees enjoyed a delicious spread of Indian food, chai, and coffee, catered by Jhopri of Plainsboro, adding a touch of home and comfort to the event.
IndiXspark’s success was immediately clear, with participants expressing their desire for more such events. As one of the first of its kind, this celebration of Indian American ideas has set the stage for future gatherings that will continue to highlight the powerful stories of the community.
