Dwarka

Dwarka, a city steeped in history and spirituality, is set to make headlines with the launch of India’s first-ever tourist submarine adventure. Scheduled to commence operations before Diwali in October 2024, this groundbreaking initiative will allow visitors to explore the submerged remnants of what is believed to be the ancient kingdom of Lord Krishna, enhancing the region’s appeal as a premier tourist destination.

The submarine, equipped with advanced technology and safety features, promises a safe and immersive experience for passengers. Designed to accommodate up to 30 tourists, the submarine will take visitors on a journey approximately 100 meters below the surface of the Arabian Sea, where they can witness the vibrant marine life and ancient structures that lie beneath the waves. This venture marks a significant milestone in India’s marine tourism sector, which has been gaining traction in recent years.

According to the Gujarat government, the submarine tours aim to boost local tourism while also fostering awareness about marine conservation. By showcasing the rich biodiversity of the Arabian Sea, this initiative seeks to cultivate a greater appreciation for the need to protect and preserve marine ecosystems.

Dwarka is one of the seven Mukti Sthals (places of liberation) in Hinduism and is revered as the kingdom of Lord Krishna. The city is believed to have been submerged after Krishna’s departure from the world, marking the beginning of the Kali Yuga. The introduction of submarine tourism aligns with the growing trend of religious tourism in India, which attracted over 1.4 billion participants in 2022 alone. This project aims to deepen visitors’ connection to the spiritual heritage that Dwarka represents.

The collaboration between the Gujarat government and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders is expected to significantly enhance Dwarka’s tourism profile. Known for its ancient temples and religious significance, the city will diversify its appeal by offering this unique underwater adventure. The initiative is anticipated to attract both domestic and international tourists, contributing to the local economy and creating employment opportunities in the region.

Safety is a top priority for the submarine tours. Passengers will receive comprehensive safety briefings before embarking on their journey, and the submarine will be operated by a team of skilled professionals. Additionally, the project will adhere to sustainable tourism practices to minimize environmental impact, ensuring that the natural beauty and marine ecosystems are preserved for future generations.

Each submarine tour will last approximately two hours, providing ample time for exploration.
