The Indian men’s hockey team secured a spot in the Paris Olympics semifinals after defeating Great Britain 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. Despite playing most of the match with 10 men after Amit Rohidas was shown a red card, India displayed immense resilience and skill to overcome their opponents.

India took the lead in the 22nd minute through a penalty corner conversion by captain Harmanpreet Singh. However, the team’s numerical disadvantage allowed Great Britain to equalize shortly after. The Indian defense, led by goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, put on a heroic performance to keep the score level until the final whistle.

In the penalty shootout, the Indian players showcased nerves of steel, scoring all four of their attempts to seal the victory. Sreejesh once again proved his mettle, making crucial saves to deny Great Britain.

Unfortunately, India will have to face Germany in the semifinal without the services of Amit Rohidas, who has been handed a one-match suspension for breaching the FIH Code of Conduct. Hockey India’s appeal against the decision was rejected by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

India and Germany have a rich history in Olympic hockey, having faced each other 18 times previously. India holds the edge with 8 wins compared to Germany’s 6, while 4 matches have ended in draws. The most recent encounter was the Bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympics, where India emerged victorious 5-4.

The semifinal match between India and Germany is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, at 10:30 PM IST. Fans can watch the live action on Sports 18 1 and Sports 18 2 channels or stream it on the JioCinema app and website.

As the nation eagerly awaits the semifinal clash, the Indian team will be drawing inspiration from their gutsy performance against Great Britain. With the support of their passionate fans and the determination to make history, the hockey stalwarts will be aiming to secure a spot in the coveted Olympic final for the first time in 44 years.
