This one-of-a-kind event marks an unforgettable celebration of culture, community, and craftsmanship.
This momentous occasion is made possible through the collaborative efforts of British Women in Sarees and Uma Global, with invaluable contributions from local cultural and community groups across the NY Tristate area. The legacy of British Women in Sarees extends far and wide, marked by internationally acclaimed events such as the Royal Ascot Ladies’ Day and the historic Saree Walkathon at Trafalgar Square in London. These endeavors not only celebrate the saree but also serve as a beacon of hope for the handloom industry and artisans in rural India.
As Saree Goes Global movement comes to the iconic Times Square, there is anticipation of the participation of representatives from nine saree-wearing nations, uniting through music, dance, and the timeless elegance of the saree.
In August last year, under Saree Walkathon, the brightly dressed and visibly excited participants walked from Trafalgar Square to Parliament Square in not just different regional waves, but also showcased varied draping styles from each region of India.
