New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Deputy Commissioner of International Affairs Dilip Chauhan celebrated the ‘festival of lights’ with people of the Hindu community at the Bhakti Center, the oldest Hindu temple in Manhattan.

On his Diwali tour across Five Borough, he visited the Bhakti Center in Manhattan, the Hare Krishna Center in Brooklyn, and the Sree Ram Mandir on Staten Island, celebrating Diwali in a traditional manner bringing the light to outshine the darkness. He wished all a Shubh Diwali.

Earlier in June, Eric Adams had announced the popular Hindu festival Diwali as a school holiday in New York City. This year was the first such celebration after this important decision in the history of Indian Americans staying in the US and in particular New York City.

While extending greetings to NYC, he conveyed that the Hindu Festival of Lights celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. May those principles fuel our entire city in the coming year, he said.

The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, the leading umbrella community organization in the US, partnered with the Empire State Building to illuminate the iconic Manhattan building for the festival.
