Latest data from the US Customs and Border Protection, the largest federal law enforcement agency in the US, reveals that of the 8,076 Indians arrested for entering the US illegally through various routes, 3,059, or 38% were caught on the US-Canada border. This is the highest number of such arrests in a month between October 2022 and September 2023.

Among those arrested were four unaccompanied children, four other children accompanied by family members, and 530 children with their parents and siblings. Additionally, a total of 2,521 single adults were apprehended. It’s worth noting that Indians attempting to enter the US unlawfully typically do so via the U.S.-Mexico border. Between February 2019 and March 2023, a staggering 1.90 lakh Indians were arrested attempting to cross into the US unlawfully.

Efforts by Indians to engage in illegal migration to the US persist, even though there have been numerous tragic incidents in which several families lost their lives during these hazardous journeys.
