Symphony New Hampshire (SNH) continues its 100th annual season with Symphony Masala at the new Nashua Center for the Arts (201 Main St.) on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. This will be SNH’s first presentation of Bollywood music set to a brand-new symphonic orchestration.
This first-of-its-kind concert will feature Bollywood favorites conducted by SNH Music Director Roger Kalia, a multi-Solti awardee, and performed by award-winning Indian American singer, Anuradha Palakurthi-Juju.
In collaboration with Juju Productions, Symphony Masala will be an exploration of the vast musical catalog of Hindi Cinema as never heard before – with a full symphony orchestra.
“Over the last nine months, musicians from Mumbai and the US have worked to create new symphonic orchestration scores that do not use any Indian instrumentation. This is probably the first such concert in the United States ” said Anuradha Palakurthi-Juju, adding “The occasion of the centennial of the oldest professional orchestra in New Hampshire makes it a special honor for the larger Indian community in the Greater Boston area.”
Widely regarded for her singing versatility across genres and in multiple languages, Anuradha Palakurthi-Juju won Radio Mirchi’s best independent song, Indian-equivalent of the Grammys, making her the first US nominee to do so. She was also one of the featured singers in the Filmfare Award-winning show Times of Music with Bappi Lahiri and Vishal Shekhar.
She performed and produced music with Bollywood stars such as Kumar Sanu, Suresh Wadkar, Deepak Pandit, Salim Sulaiman, Mika Singh, Vijay Prakash, Hariharan, Bappi Lahiri, Ustad Rashid Khan, Shivamani, Guitar Prasanna, Bappa Lahiri and others.
SNH Music Director Roger Kalia looks forward to the highly anticipated performance, saying, “I am thrilled to collaborate with acclaimed singer Anuradha ‘Juju’ Palakurthi and Symphony NH for our first-ever Bollywood fusion concert. It is going to be a unique evening of two rich musical cultures coming together. Many thanks to New Hampshire State Representative Latha Mandipudi and Juju Entertainment for working with us to create a truly special orchestral experience.”
Proceeds from this memorable evening will support Symphony NH’s education and community engagement programs.
Symphony New Hampshire is dedicated to performing great music with an exceptional orchestra to enrich and delight our diverse audiences and expand the musical and humanitarian contributions of the arts community.
