The next-gen app by Prasar Bharati, WAVES was presented by Navneet Kumar Sehgal, Chairman Prasar Bharati at the Indian Consulate in New York on June 6. The presentation was organized by Mukesh Modi of Indie Film Festival Awards (IFFA) with support from the Consul General, Binaya S. Pradhan. In a full house with leading luminaries from media & entertainment industry based in USA, the event included a Q&A session hosted by Mr. Modi.
Mr. Sehgal unfolded the first of its kind free app, Waves which streams hundreds of TV Channels, films, Radio streams, music, video-on-demand. Waves is a vision of Honorable Prime Minister Modi which was launched recently in Mumbai in the first week of May. Industry leaders have acknowledged this as a revolutionary app that will provide a platform to all, free of cost, to access media from all parts of India including TV channels, movies, music etc. from all over the world.
Honorable Consul General Binaya Pradhan while welcoming Mr Navneet Sehgal, Chairman Prasar Bharati, praised the Honorable Prime Minister Modi for his vision. At a time when content is key to connect and engage, WAVES is a true representation of India through media and entertainment from all over India. Its a breakthrough in technology and sets up new ease of access to all around the world.
Sunil Hali, Publisher and promoter of Radio Zindagi Network & The Indian EYE News Publications and online media opened the session to share the urgency of such an initiative for Indian diaspora. This will fulfill the long pending need to edutain Indian diaspora estimated to be about 35 million. He congratulated Consul General Binaya S. Pradhan and Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal for introducing the App which can be downloaded unconditionally and be the gateway to India for the diaspora.
After that Mr. Sehgal invited media houses and content creators to use the platform. Films, events, news, talk shows, cultural programs, all can be distributed through the WAVES app all over the world on revenue share and no cost basis.
The Q&A session included Simran Ahuja, former Miss India and a global Emcee and TV Host, now. She shared her learnings with aspiring women to excel in all walks of life.
Dr Shivanand presented his book on Yoga to mark the Yoga month of June.
Community leaders and content creators included Ms. Pooja Kumar, Tirlok Malik, Kiran Merchant, Dr. Raj Bhayani of The Indian EYE Worldwide Media and Entertainment Group, Dr. Sudhir Parikh of ITV GOLD & Parikh Worldwide Media, Vikas Nangia of TV ASIA among others.
