As the nation celebrated Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Magh Bihu, celebrities from the film fraternity, including Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher, among many others, extended greetings to their fans and followers.
Sending best wishes to his fans, family, and friends, Anupam Kher shared an IG video saying, “Makar Sankranti ki hardik shubhkamnayein, sath me hi happy Pongal, Happy Uttarayan. Bhagwan apki sabhi manokamnayein puri kare.”
Taking to her Twitter handle, Madhuri Dixit wrote, “Wishing everyone Happy #Bihu, #Pongal, #Uttarayan and #MakarSankranti.”
Jr NTR also greeted his fans in Telugu that translated in English as, “Bhogi, Sankranthi, Kanuma wishes to you and your family members. Wishing you all a very Happy Sankranthi.”
Binging on to traditional til ladoos, Shilpa Shetty posted a video on her Instagram handle with a caption, “May the harvest festival reap you all the love, blessings, and happiness that you deserve. Happy Makar Sankranti and Happy Pongal to everyone.”
Music icon AR Rahman took to his Twitter handle and wished fans in Tamil with hashtags “#HappyPongal #MakarSankranti.”
Several celebrities including Akshay Kumar, Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Kharbanda and Rakul Preet Singh among others also greeted their fans on the special occasion.
Makar Sankranti is a festival in the Hindu calendar, dedicated to Lord Surya or the Sun God, while ‘Magh Bihu’ is celebrated with community feasts after the annual harvest takes place.
Pongal is a four-day harvest festival dedicated to the Sun God.
But veteran actor Hema Malini is having low-key Pongal celebrations at her home due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.
On the special occasion, Hema took to Twitter and shared a few pictures of her cooking the signature Ven Pongal dish.
She chose to wear a beautiful pink saree to mark the harvest festival.
“Celebrated Pongal with the family today. Here I am making the Pongal at home, ” Hema tweeted. Hema and Dharmendra’s daughter Esha, too, celebrated Pongal today in the presence of her family members
Taking to Instagram, Esha shared a video of cooking Pongal at home with her kids.

I always make pongal at home for my family (a tradition I learnt from my grandmother) sweet pongal is a favourite with my kids & we all love screaming together ‘polgalo pongal’ as it’s being cooked. Celebrated in the Tai month of the Tamil solar calendar, the multi-day festival is one of the biggest harvest festivals, along with Makar Sankranti. It is widely celebrated by the Tamil community across the globe.
On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, actor Akshay Kumar extended his heartfelt greetings to everyone.
Taking to Instagram, Akshay posted a picture of him flying a kite. Alongside the image, he penned a beautiful message for all. He asked everyone to never lose hope in their life. “‘Meethe gud me mil gaye til…udhi patang aur khil gaye dil’..May #MakarSankranti bring new hope and joy in your lives. Bas vishwas ki dor pakar ke rakhna (just hold onto the thread of hope),” he wrote.
In the image, Akshay can be seen sporting a peach-coloured shirt and blue jeans while holding onto the kite spool.
Makar Sankranti is dedicated to Lord Surya (Sun God) and marks the sun’s transit into Makara (Capricorn) raashi (zodiac sign). It marks the beginning of the harvest season when people worship new crops and share them with delight.
This year’s Lohri turned out to be extra special for actor Katrina Kaif as it was her first with her husband Vicky Kaushal.
In the wee hours of Friday, Katrina took to her Instagram account and gave fans a sneak peek into the newlyweds’ Lohri celebrations. She posted a string of images, in which she can be seen sharing smiles with Vicky while standing in front of a bonfire.
For the occasion, Katrina chose to wear a red ethnic suit. On the other hand, Vicky opted for a comfortable athleisure wear. In one of the pictures, the couple can be seen adorably looking into each other’s eyes, leaving fans in awe.
Vicky, too, posted a picture with Katrina and wrote, “Happy Lohri.”
The particular click shows Vicky putting his arm around Katrina’s shoulders. “So cute,” a social media user commented. “Haye nazar na lage. Stay blessed,” another one wrote.
The two, who tied the knot on December 9, have celebrated their first Lohri in Indore as Vicky is currently shooting there for his next film.
