Ace director S S Rajamouli has revealed details about a monumental sequence he filmed for his upcoming film “Varanasi,” starring Mahesh Babu. The director described this episode as one of the most memorable sequences in his entire career. At the film’s recent title announcement event, Rajamouli shared the emotional journey behind creating this sequence, which is inspired by the Ramayana epic and features Mahesh Babu in the role of Rama.
Rajamouli expressed deep excitement and reverence for the project, recalling how seeing Mahesh Babu dressed as Rama gave him goosebumps. The sequence took 60 days to shoot and was a major challenge, with each subsection planned as a cinematic piece in itself. Despite the difficulties, the team completed the sequence recently, and Rajamouli is confident it will be a highlight of the film. The director also touched on personal reflections, mentioning his longstanding fascination with the Ramayana and Mahabharata, and how this project fulfilled a childhood dream of filming episodes from these epics.
The title teaser of “Varanasi” faced initial technical glitches during its unveiling but was eventually received with great enthusiasm. The film, co-starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is being positioned as an epic mythological and time-traveling adventure, with visuals that are both grand and intense. The scale of production and the ambitious nature of the project were evident when the teaser was screened on a massive 130 ft by 100 ft screen to a crowd of over 50,000 fans.
“Varanasi” is expected to be released in early 2027, with fans eagerly awaiting what promises to be a cinematic event combining mythology, action, and innovative storytelling under Rajamouli’s direction.
