The United Kingdom’s luxury automotive brand, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has been in the news recently due to the string of cyber attacks that it has been struck with in recent times. Indian IT giant Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) has found itself in the spotlight due to its alleged role in the Tata Group owned Jaguar Land Rover facing outage due to cyberattack.
As per the reports, the Business and Trade Committee (BTC) of the UK had written to TCS enquiring about the ongoing cyber security incident at JLR and previous incidents at M&S and Co-op. They have also asked them numerous questions on the kind of services their company had been providing to their premium automaker among other things. The BTC has demanded answers from TCS by no later than Monday, on September 29th.
BTC wrote, “It has been reported by the BBC that the M&S cyber attack was triggered by an alleged ransomware email that was sent apparently using the account of an employee from [TCS].”
“What is TCS’s role as service provider to each of the affected firms, including the scope of services delivered to date?” the committee asked TCS.
The committee has also cited various different reports highlighting that TCS has carried out an investigation into the matter related to the M&S. That is the reason why they have asked them to provide them information on if they are going to carry out an internal investigation in the JLR’s matter or not.
BTC has also asked the Indian IT giant to reveal a number along with the details about the total value of service contracts the company holds at present. The only connection that all three victims of the cyber-attacks have is that TCS has been a technology partner for them.
