Lawrence Technological University (LTU) has appointed Dr. Devesh Misra as Dean of the College of Engineering. Misra is a globally respected engineering leader, academic and visionary. He brings more than four decades of excellence in academic leadership, groundbreaking research, and an unwavering commitment to empowering the next generation of engineers to imagine, create, and lead with purpose.
Dr. Misra most recently served as Founding Director of the Center for Structural and Functional Materials Research at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he was also a professor in metallurgical, materials, and biomedical engineering.
A Visionary Leader in Engineering Education
Misra earned his PhD from the University of Cambridge and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University). His leadership record spans roles as Chair and Graduate Director at UTEP, Distinguished Professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and Deputy Director of India’s Defense Metallurgical Research Laboratory. He has led strategic growth initiatives, established cross-disciplinary partnerships, and significantly elevated academic rankings and research funding at every institution he has served.
Trailblazing Research and Innovation
A prolific researcher, Misra has authored more than 1,000 peer-reviewed publications, holds multiple U.S. patents, and has secured millions of dollars in research funding. His work spans advanced manufacturing, AI-enabled materials design, nanotechnology, biomedical innovation, and sustainable energy. He is consistently ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists by Stanford University.

Misra’s career is defined by his commitment to student success, mentoring hundreds of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral scholars. He has pioneered transformative curricula, international exchange programs, and initiatives that cultivate innovation, leadership, and lifelong learning.
