India captain Shubman Gill and opener Shafali Verma have won the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for September 2026, with Gill achieving a career milestone by claiming his fifth monthly honour and Verma securing the women’s award for the second time.

The ICC announced the winners on Tuesday, October 13, recognising Gill’s record-breaking performances in the One-Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies and Verma’s contributions to India’s triumphs at the Women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games.

The Indian captain won the award ahead of fellow nominee Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza. Gill had previously received the honour in January and September 2023, February 2025 and July 2025.

Verma, meanwhile, earned recognition for her all-round performances during September. She finished as the leading run-scorer at the Women’s Asia Cup, as India secured the title.

At the Asian Games in Japan, Verma continued her impressive form, helping India progress towards winning the gold medal.

Verma won the women’s award ahead of India spinner Sree Charani and Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu. The double marked the third time Indian players have won both monthly honours in the same month, underlining the country’s strong performances across men’s and women’s cricket.
